Get Ready To Geek! V is Back!

Oh my jaysus! Can I just speak to you for a moment while wearing a totally tubular (what the fuck did that mean anyway?) red and black jumpsuit with really big post cataract-surgery blu-blockers because my space reptile eyes can’t take the direct sunlight? Dude, here’s the trailer for ABC’s remake of V and it looks hotsy.

I love when Diana…I mean, Anna…comes with the big face on the bottom of the ship and tells everyone not to worry, we’re just here to eat your rats, yo. Until we get bored with the vermin and start putting your asses in freezers! And you know that the ship is a technological marvel that had this chick and her Rosemary Woodhouse do speaking it in Japanese, Swahili and clicking noises for the jungle people and shit.

V was a cultural touchstone for me as a kid. I couldn’t decide if I wanted to be part of horrifyingly bad actor Marc Singer’s resistance or join the Visitors, because Jane Badler (who played evil leader Diana) was so terribly glamorous with her big hair, cat eyes, and the jaw that extended when she needed to chug a rat. I mean, check it:

So yeah, I was totally into both of the mini-series. And then the short-lived series that followed. The memories! Michael Ironsides being all gruff and bald and anti-hero! When the old lady in the turban was in the wheelchair and revealed the shotgun in her leg cast when the Resistance took over the party! Laser guns! Freddy Krueger as a nice alien! Julie in the mind control booth! The damn lizard baby that crawled out of that pregnant teenager who kept eating all the raw roast beef out of the fridge!

Anyway, this remake has Juliet from Lost going for it, and Elizabeth Mitchell is one of those actresses who kinda shines with intelligence (remember how good she was opposite Jolie in Gia?) and made Juliet (please don’t be dead, stupid chains, stupid electromagnetic energy, useless Kate. I can’t reach her, wah! Shut the fuck up, Kate, you freckle-faced liar!) one of my favorite characters on the screen-v. PLUS, whereas remakes used to suck like your Dirt Devil, Battlestar Galactica was hot. So I am begging and pleading with the TV gods that ABC takes the original fun concept and makes it even darker, and scarier and action-packed.

And smarter. Because weren’t they defeated with the dust from Pixy Sticks tossed out of hot air balloons at one point? Please? Please please me? Oh yeah? Like I please you? V!
